Recovery from Addiction
Rise Above The Risk is dedicated to spreading the message of harm reduction in addiction recovery, emphasizing a compassionate, individualized approach. By focusing on minimizing harm rather than demanding immediate abstinence, Rise Above The Risk aligns with the belief that addiction is often a symptom of deeper emotional pain and trauma, not just a "progressive disease" that invariably leads to an early grave. Influenced by the works of world renowned doctors such as Dr. Gabor Maté and Dr. Andrew Tartarsky, the organization encourages understanding addiction as a coping mechanism tied to unresolved trauma, mental health struggles, and unmet needs, rather than a purely biological disorder. The currently accepted models for both addiction and recovery are far too antiquated to be considered as serious approaches to the current drug epidemic that plagues the United States today.
Rise Above The Risk also advocates for the integration of psychedelic-assisted therapy in recovery as this approach offers transformative potential, helping individuals confront and heal from past trauma in a safe, guided setting. Rise Above The Risk believes that these therapeutic approaches can provide people with profound insights into the emotional roots of their addiction, facilitating real, lasting healing which is not something mainstream methods of treatment have been capable of under prohibition.
Through its work, Rise Above The Risk seeks to empower individuals with the tools and support they need on their unique recovery journeys. By promoting harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and innovative therapies like psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, the organization hopes to foster a more compassionate, holistic approach to addiction recovery, one that can reach individuals in diverse ways and help them reclaim their lives.
